The Vass 230 Winter Jacket in khaki is the one that lives in the car boot from October to March. Waterproof to a minimum of 20,000mm hydrostatic head, winter lined, and light enough that you stop noticing you have it on — which is the point of the Vass-Tex 230 outer.

Stays waterproof, rather than starts waterproof

• 20,000mm minimum hydrostatic head — a genuine waterproof rating, not a shower-resistant one. It will sit through a full night of rain without wetting through.
• Vass Permanent Waterproof Fabric Coating Technology — the coating is part of the fabric, not a finish sprayed on top, so it never needs reproofing and does not fade after washing.
• Welded seams throughout — stitch holes are where a cheap jacket starts letting water in. Welding removes that failure point completely.
• Windproof, with RDT moisture dissipation — moves your own body moisture out instead of trapping it, so you are not damp from the inside after walking round to the far bank.
• YKK zips and a double storm flap — on the front, both hand pockets and the internal chest pocket. The hand pocket zips run in reverse, so the pull is not digging into your wrist when you rest your hands in there.
• No PTFE in the garment — nothing leaching into the water you are fishing, and it is machine washable.

Sizing and fit

Six sizes, measured to the chest: Small 36–38", Medium 39–42", Large 43–44", XLarge 45–46", XXLarge 47–48" and XXXLarge 49–50". Vass state these are estimates, so if you are between sizes or plan to wear a thick mid layer underneath, size up. The storm hood adjusts on an elastic cord and toggle with an extra flap at the back to set the peak, the cuffs are elasticated, and the hem has drawcord toggles both sides. The back is cut longer than the front so water runs off behind you rather than down your legs when you are sat down.
